Drunk Guest Says Another Hotel Called The Cops “For No Reason,” Instantly Gets Turned Away

Late night hotel shifts come with plenty of strange encounters, especially near busy bars and crowded beaches. Most guests simply need a safe place to sleep, but every so often, someone walks in and accidentally reveals exactly why giving them a room would be a terrible idea.

That is what happened to this night auditor when an intoxicated man arrived at 2:30 in the morning asking about availability. At first, the request seemed routine. Then he casually mentioned being thrown out of another nearby hotel and blamed the manager for everything.

One quick phone call uncovered a very different version of events and confirmed that refusing him had been the right decision. Scroll down to find out what he had done.

A night auditor grows suspicious when a drunken guest admits another hotel kicked him out

not the actual photo

'If you're gonna be a problem guest, at least don't tell us that up front'

It's 2:30am, I'm working audit, and I have a guy walk in asking if we have any rooms available.

This hotel is right near the beach and very close to a good few bars, it's not unusual to have people come in late on short notice

because they partied too hard and realized they couldn't get themselves home,

so the fact that he was very clearly not sober didn't raise much alarm for me

besides the general mental preparation to deal with someone who might become belligerent.

However, where this man screwed up is admitting that he had had a room at a nearby hotel a couple blocks away,

but "the a__hole manager kicked [him] out and called the cops for no f__king reason"

and details how his dad had paid for a room for him with an authorization form.

Immediate alarm bells, nope, we're totally sold out and don't possibly have anything available for the next few days,

sorry but good luck finding somewhere elsewhere. He grumbles a bit about me not letting him hang out in the lobby but finally leaves after getting some water.

Now I'm curious. I'm sure we all know that hotels do not like to evict guests unless absolutely necessary.

There are a half dozen hotels within walking distance of each other in this stretch of beach, so we all have pretty good rapport with each other.

Of course my nosy ass is gonna call the hotel he was kicked from to learn the actual story.

Well obviously he was not evicted for "no reason".

Turns out, he was on some manner of drugs which compelled him to pull the fire alarm on one of the guest floors at 10:30pm,

got a warning for it, and proceeded to pull that stunt again at 1:30am.

For whatever reason the manager didn't want to evict on the first instance, but having it happen again pissed off too many other guests

that they'll definitely have to comp some rooms tonight, thus this i__ot was kicked to the curb.

The auditor only didn't call to warn the other nearby hotels because she saw him leaving with police and thought he got arrested.

The fact that he has no payment on hand and had to have his daddy pay means no one in the area is gonna rent to him anyways,

but had he not slipped and given me his tale about why he needs a room,

I at least would've genuinely tried to help him and go over availability and rates until we hit the payment road block.

Oh well, he played stupid games and now he has to deal with his stupid prizes.

Hospitality is often described as the art of making guests feel welcome, but behind every pleasant stay is a responsibility that guests rarely see. Hotel employees are not simply renting rooms, they are protecting the comfort, safety, and security of dozens or even hundreds of other people sharing the same building.

Because of that responsibility, a front desk agent’s job sometimes requires saying “no,” even when someone appears to need help. The difficult part is knowing when compassion should give way to caution.

From a third-person perspective, the night auditor initially approached the situation with reasonable professionalism. An intoxicated guest arriving after local bars closed was not unusual for a beach hotel, and there was no indication that the employee intended to refuse service simply because the man had been drinking.

What changed the interaction was the guest’s own explanation. By volunteering that he had just been evicted from another nearby hotel and claiming the manager had called the police “for no reason,” he unintentionally raised questions that any experienced hotel employee would consider important.

Rather than taking the story at face value, the auditor chose to verify what had happened through an established relationship with a neighboring property.

The truth that the guest had repeatedly activated a fire alarm after already receiving a warning fundamentally changed the risk assessment. False fire alarms are not harmless pranks. They disrupt emergency services, endanger guests, interrupt sleep, and can create panic in crowded buildings.

Another perspective is that the guest may have been intoxicated or otherwise impaired to the point that his judgment was severely compromised.

Substance use can dramatically affect decision-making, impulse control, and memory. If he was under the influence, he may genuinely have minimized or misunderstood his own behavior. That possibility can evoke sympathy for someone who was clearly not making rational decisions.

Yet sympathy does not eliminate the hotel’s responsibility to everyone else staying there. A person who has already demonstrated disruptive behavior at one property represents a foreseeable risk at another, particularly during the middle of the night when staffing is limited.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association emphasizes that protecting guest safety is among a hotel’s highest responsibilities.

Front desk employees are expected to assess situations that may threaten the security, comfort, or well-being of other guests and to exercise discretion when deciding whether someone should be accommodated, particularly when disruptive conduct has already been documented.

That perspective highlights why the employee’s decision was less about punishing the individual and more about preventing a repeat incident. Hospitality professionals routinely balance customer service with risk management, and the safest decision is not always the most generous one.

In this case, the guest’s own account prompted the questions that ultimately revealed why another hotel had concluded he could no longer remain on the property.

Ultimately, this story serves as a reminder that first impressions are shaped not only by how people appear but by the information they choose to share. Had the guest simply requested a room, the interaction may have unfolded very differently.

Instead, his own explanation encouraged further scrutiny, which uncovered behavior serious enough to justify caution. In industries built on trust and public safety, honesty matters but so does recognizing that our actions often tell a fuller story than our explanations do.

Here’s what the community had to contribute:

These Redditors mocked the guest for blaming everyone except himself

SkwrlTail − Yeah, I'll never understand why they play for sympathy that way. I mean, maybe they think we hate our competitors a lot?

Or that we're absolutely *desperate* for guests? Just imagining a grubby Dickensian urchin, tattered cap clenched in soot-stained hands.

"Please guv'nor, I got frown out by the cruellest tavern keeper you ever met.

Wasn't doin' nuffin', and 'e flings me out into the cold and damp. 'Ow was I s'posed t'know pulling the fire alarm wasn't allowed? "

Chon-Laney − "All my exes are crazy."

Immediate_Sector_260 − Reminds me of a childhood poem I read and still love called it wasnt me by Steve Turner.

When saying bout those that cannot take responsibility and blame everyone else.

It wasn't me, my cup just fell, The plate jumped on the floor, The window cracked all by itself And then it slammed the door.

I didn't punch, my hand just slipped And curled into a fist. He happened to come walking by, I happened not to miss.

It wasn't me who talked in class, I didn't steal that pen,  If someone says they saw me cheat They've got it wrong again.

It wasn't me, it's not my fault! Why do I get the blame?

The naughty child that does these things Has pinched my face and name.

This group criticized management for failing to evict him after repeated alarms

Sharikacat − Absolutely baffling that an intentional fire alarm pull didn't warrant an eviction.

goldfishpaws − Wake me up with a fire alarm twice in a night and you wouldn't need to be looking for a bed any more

TreeCityKitty − Forget the drunk, you have a problem manager. My GM's a pretty easy going guy but don't hassle his staff and don't disturb the other guests.

These commenters believed police should have detained him for public safety

Pleasant-Kick4155 − The unfortunate end to this story is likely that he decided to drive home (or somewhere else) drunk

and drugged in the middle of the night after not finding a room.

He should definitely have been given overnight accommodations at the local gray-bar hotel. Cops dropped the ball for sure.

DaneAlaskaCruz − Some people never take accountability for their actions. Things just happen to them.

They get into trouble for no reason. The manager kicked them out for no reason also. The whole world is always against them.

This guy should have definitely been arrested and thrown in the drunk tank for pulling an alarm not just once, but twice in one night!

Firefighters respond to all alarms like it is the real deal, cause you never know it's not until they get there and assess the situation.

Getting called out twice in one night to the same location for a false alarm is super annoying and a massive waste of emergency resources.

There could be another emergency nearby that they didn't get to respond to or are late to respond to because they are over at the hotel.

And they're not as rested and ready to respond to the next emergency. The guy should have been locked up and then charged with wasting resources.

These users saw his “kicked out for no reason” story as an obvious warning sign

unholyrevenger72 − I wish I could put up a sign that said "If the Uber Ride home costs less than a room here, go home"

rebelangel − Yeah, no hotel is going to call the cops on a guest for “no reason”. Total red flag.

Would you have refused him immediately, or contacted the first hotel before deciding whether to offer a room?
