Moana’s New Adventure
The trailer teases an exciting journey as Moana sets sail to explore long-lost waters and reconnect with her people across the ocean.
“This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean,” Moana says, hinting at the grand adventure ahead.
Initially developed as a television series, Moana 2 was reworked into a theatrical sequel. The film features new songs from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, with Osnat Shurer producing and Jennifer Lee serving as executive producer.
A Special Role for Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Johnson, who took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month to debut footage from Moana 2, shared his deep connection to the character Maui.
“Playing the character of Maui is one of the most life-changing life experiences for me — and life-changing roles,” Johnson said.
He explained that the role is particularly special because of its cultural significance.
It’s my culture — you guys can see I wear it on my chest, my body, my tattoo, and also the character of Maui was inspired by my grandfather, the high chief, Peter Maivia. It’s so much deeper than a movie to me, and I know it’s deeper for Disney, too,” Johnson added.
Anticipation Builds for the Sequel
The original Moana, released in 2016, garnered over $687 million worldwide and received two Oscar nominations. The sequel promises to build on this success with an engaging storyline and captivating new music.
In addition to Moana 2, Disney is also developing a live-action remake of Moana, directed by Thomas Kail and set to star Johnson. This film is scheduled for release on July 10, 2026.
