Marvel Studios has found itself at a crossroads with the character of Kang the Conqueror, especially following Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles. now that the actor isn’t a part of the MCU anymore, fan art has taken the internet by storm, reimagining Giancarlo Esposito as the new time-traveling villain in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Esposito’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe could shake things up significantly.
The buzz began earlier this month when Esposito hinted at his involvement in the MCU “sooner than later,” though he left fans guessing about his exact role. One thing is for sure, the actor confirmed that he won’t be Professor X, though it was his dream role in Marvel.
Therefore, since the timing was awfully right, the fandom suggest that the 66-year-old alum was cast to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang and his variants. The theory was backed up with this stunning artwork by AkiTheFull and Zippexe, presenting Esposito as a formidable Kang the Conqueror, sparking discussions and hopes among fans about this potential casting.

Recent MCU movies and series have been introduced to us multiple new actors as new heroes and villains. Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is arguably the biggest of them all, as the villain is poised to be the main antagonist of the upcoming Avengers movies. Well, until Majors was found guilty during his trials for assault, at least.
Marvel has yet to confirm whether Esposito will step into Majors’ shoes as Kang, who has been built up as the primary antagonist of The Multiverse Saga. Since the firing of Majors, there’s been a notable absence of Kang or his variants in the latest MCU releases, including Loki season 2. With Avengers: The Kang Dynasty—recently dubbed simply as Avengers 5—looming, Marvel finds itself potentially needing to recast Kang amidst its ongoing saga.
There’s speculation that Marvel might shift the narrative away from Kang as the central villain, opting instead for another character to fill that role. However, given the substantial groundwork already laid for Kang’s story, it would be strange to recast him only to suddenly cut him off before The Multiverse Saga comes to an end. Therefore, recasting the character seems like a more plausible action.
Giancarlo Esposito is no stranger to villain roles, with his stints in Breaking Bad and the Far Cry 6 game, so he’s already perfect material to portray the iconic Marvel time-traveler. Yet, there’s also a part of the Marvel fanbase that would love to see him take on a heroic role, in contrast to his typical casting. Regardless of the outcome, Esposito’s involvement in the MCU is a thrilling prospect.
Time will tell if Esposito will be cast as the new Kang or not, but for now, let’s enjoy the boundless creativity from the Marvel communities with this exceptional fan art.
