Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are extending their on-screen partnership beyond the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 (titled Deadpool & Wolverine for this release).
The close friends, who first met on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2008, are eager to collaborate again. This time, however, they’ll be venturing outside the superhero genre.
Building on their successful reunion in Deadpool & Wolverine (releasing July 25th, 2024), the duo has hinted at an upcoming project that will showcase their comedic chemistry in a new light.
We have one we’re looking to do soon,” Reynolds revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He went on to express his admiration for Jackman, highlighting the key ingredient to their successful collaboration.
“I would say that (ours) is like any relationship that is successful and works: It’s that two parties are rooting for each other,” he praised. “I’m always rooting for Hugh to score and win. I also know the infinite nuance of his heart and his mind and who he is. I can say firsthand that he’s a person who’s not just worth rooting for, he’s somebody who’s impossible to not root for.”
Their camaraderie dates back to their first encounter on the set of Wolverine (2009), which also marked Reynolds’ debut as Deadpool. Reynolds reminisced about a specific instance that solidified their bond.
“I just, in a cursory sense, said, ‘I wish I had another crack at that elevator scene that we shot earlier today.’ I’m realising what I could have done, the jetlag is wearing off, and I’m starting to see it,” Reynolds remembered. “This guy (Jackman) just fired up the lights in there, asked everyone to hop in the elevator. Their willingness to come back is what really spoke volumes about Hugh. There was not even a moment’s hesitation.”
With Deadpool & Wolverine hitting theaters soon, fans can expect an action-packed reunion filled with the signature humor of both characters. This upcoming project, however, promises to showcase a different side of Reynolds and Jackman’s dynamic talent.
