In a recent fan event held in Seoul, Hugh Jackman opened up about his decision to return as Wolverine in the highly anticipated movie Deadpool & Wolverine, set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
Fans were eager to hear from Jackman, who had previously bid farewell to the iconic character in 2017’s Logan.
During the event, Jackman shared a touching revelation about what drew him back to the role.
“These two poured their heart and soul into ensuring this was the best version of Wolverine yet. When I read the script, I never felt someone care so much about my character as me, until Ryan Reynolds & Shawn Levy,” he said, referring to his co-star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy.
Jackman’s return came as a surprise to many, especially after he had been quite certain that Logan was his final outing as Wolverine.

“I was on my way. I was just driving, and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan, for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together. And I swear to you, when I said I was done, I really thought I was done.”
He continued, “In the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, ‘Those two characters together…’ I knew it. I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew. I literally could not wait to arrive.”
“As soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan and I said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent [after] and say, ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve just committed to a movie.’
Reynolds, who has long expressed his desire to bring Wolverine and Deadpool together on screen, joked about Jackman’s return, calling him a “bald-faced horrible coward and a liar.”
