Mae Whitman, who starred in Good Girls, has just been cast as the female main in Up Here, a musical rom-com drama from Tick, Tick… Boom! on Hulu.
What is the Up Here story?
Up Here is a film directed by Kail and written by Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, and Lopez. It is set in New York City in the latter days of 1999. It tells the incredible story of Lindsay and Miguel, an average couple who fall in love and learn that the greatest impediment to finding happiness together may be themselves – and the perilous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and dreams that lives within their brains.
Lindsay is played by actor-singer Mae Whitman, who has spent her whole life attempting to live up to the good-girl character that the world appears to demand of her. But she’s had enough of being polite, and she’s ready to leave her small-town Vermont existence behind in order to discover who she really is and what she truly wants in New York City.
Original songs will be written by Anderson-Lopez and Lopez for Up Here. The show’s production will begin this summer in New York, with an eight-episode straight-to-series order. The studio is 20th Television, which is producing with Kail’s Old 320 Sycamore Productions. Jennifer Todd executive produces with Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, Lopez, and Kail.
