After Netflix’s number one series “Stranger Things” breathed a new breeze to Kate Bush’s 80s classic “Running Up That Hill” this May 2022 and elevated it to the most streamed song both in the US and globally, its recently popular series Wednesday, a spin-off directed by Tim Burton from The Adams Family, brings back another 80s classic: “Goo Goo Muck” of The Cramps.

In episode four of the series, titled “Woe What A Night”, Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy’s annual Rave’N dance and performs a series of ghoulish moves to the sound of The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck”. The scene goes viral and puts the 80s song back on the chart.

The Cramps song sat on 2,500 daily on-demand streams in the US (per Billboard) on November 23 – Wednesday’s premiere. Following its use in the hit Netflix series Wednesday, “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps has enjoyed a 50-fold streaming surge in the US. The song had reached 134,000 daily US streams by November 28 (five days after the inclusion). Currently, it has amassed close to 10 million streams on Spotify.

Netflix initially licensed “Goo Goo Muck” for use on Wednesday for an amount that Jim Shaw, the owner of the publishing rights to the track, said was “an average payment for TV use. Shaw also commented that the song’s resurgence was “a really amazing, fun little bonanza”. “Goo Goo Muck” was also featured on the soundtrack of the 1986 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, revealed that she choreographed and improvised the dance herself, though she was not an expert dancer or choreographer. Therefore, she actually felt really insecure about it. Several eagle-eyed viewers have since noticed that her choreography included a subtle tribute to the original 1960s series and that Ortega threw a move that was an homage to John Astin Gomez (the actor playing Gomez Addam in The Addams Family).

Another user on Twitter spotted that Ortega also mimicked the original moves of her character in the same 1960s scene. Fans are happy to see 2022 TV Wednesday doing the original TV Wednesday’s dance. Last week, Wednesday surpassed Stranger Things 4 as the Netflix title with the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series.
