Teen Keeps Demanding a Stranger’s Food, So He Finally Hands Over the Spiciest Meal Possible

Repeatedly bothering a tired stranger for their food might seem funny until the stranger finally decides to share.

This Redditor says a group of young teenagers regularly harassed him during his bus ride home after long restaurant shifts.

One boy in particular always asked for whatever he happened to be eating, apparently more as a joke than out of genuine hunger. After dealing with the same routine several times, the exhausted worker decided to stop refusing.

He ordered an extremely spicy meal from a local Indian restaurant, knowing the boy would probably ask for a bite again. When the predictable request came, he calmly handed the food over. Read on to see how quickly the group disappeared.

'Oh you want my food? Sure go head kid'

So last year I sometimes got really unlucky with overtime, when I got off work and timing with busses.

(restaurants are funny like that) so sometimes I would grab food on the way and eat on the buss rather then when i get home.

Whenever I would get a specific buss there we re always this one group of kids around the ages 11-14 that would bother me,

one in particular would always ask if he could have whatever I was eating.

Eventually I got bored of dealing with this after long work shifts.

So realising I would run into them once again I decided to let them have some food. The kind of food I like to eat.

I went to the local Indian take out spot and ordered the spiciest thing they have and really pushed them to make it as spicy as possible,

asking them for ghost chili, Carolina reaper and all of those lovely thing.

This is very much the kind of food I enjoy eating, nice tickling for those that are used to it,

while for typical Swedish children that barely ever had any spicy food? far less so.

So what came next went pretty much as expected.

Dum group gets on, tries to talk to me while I got my headphones on, dumb kid sits down next to me and

starts asking for my food and this time I told him of course and handed him what I was clearly eating.

All I know is that they got off at the next stop, one ran off, others followed and I just wish I had been able to hear out how they...

Anyway they never bothered me again.

Edit: to make some things clearer as I did not word it well in the post.

1,I only mentioned Caroline Reaper to the staff if the restaurant as examples of what I can take. They did not have that nor did I expect it.

I just know that often when I order spicy stuff restaurants hold back as most people in Sweden does not handle stronger spices to well.

So I learned that I need to make it clear what I can take.

What they did give me was stronger then usual but not as bad as ghost chili or Caroline reaper.

2, the kids were not asking for food cause they were hungry and struggled with getting a proper meal.

They were decently dressed, snickered and had a laugh, they were obviously trying to be funny

by harassing a stranger not expecting any consequences and it was only ever one kid that would bother me for food.

If I had suspected that they genuinely were hungry and desperate for food I would have acted completely different and properly looked into CPS.

Repeated harassment can make even a small request feel exhausting. After long shifts, missed bus connections, and several encounters with the same group of teenagers, the worker was no longer hearing an innocent question about food.

He was hearing another attempt to provoke him for entertainment. His desire to end the pattern is understandable. The more difficult question is whether deliberately offering unusually spicy food was a proportionate way to do it.

The teenagers were clearly behaving badly. They repeatedly interrupted a stranger, ignored his headphones, and treated his meal like part of their joke.

Adolescents sometimes perform for their peers, taking greater social risks because laughter and approval from the group become more important than considering how their behavior affects someone else.

UNICEF describes adolescence as a period when young people increasingly experiment, take chances, and respond strongly to social influences. That helps explain the group’s behavior, but it does not excuse it. The worker had every right to refuse, move away, alert the driver, or firmly tell them to stop.

At the same time, there is an important difference between allowing someone to experience a natural consequence and secretly engineering physical distress. The food was genuinely his preferred meal, and the teenager voluntarily asked for it.

However, the worker also ordered it with the expectation that the child would eat something far beyond his tolerance. That intention matters.

Capsaicin can cause severe burning, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; in susceptible people, inhalation or extreme exposure can also contribute to breathing problems.

The clarification that the meal did not actually contain Carolina Reaper or ghost pepper reduces the apparent danger, but it does not erase the fact that discomfort was the planned outcome.

A fresh perspective is that both sides were engaging in a power contest. The teenagers wanted to demonstrate that they could bother an adult without consequences. The adult wanted to reverse the humiliation and make them regret choosing him.

The result was emotionally satisfying because it ended the harassment, but satisfaction is not always the same as sound judgment. Adults generally carry more responsibility in conflicts with minors because they have more experience and more options for de-escalation.

The American Academy of Pediatrics advises addressing repeated bullying through clear intervention and involvement from responsible adults rather than allowing retaliation to escalate the situation.

It also notes that young people who bully may be seeking control, status, attention, or connection through harmful behavior.

In this setting, telling the driver, documenting the repeated incidents, changing seats, or giving a direct warning would have created consequences without introducing a health risk.

The worker was not wrong for being angry or for refusing to tolerate harassment. The teenagers also learned a memorable lesson about demanding strangers’ food.

Still, the wisest boundary is one that protects the target without creating a new danger. A comeback can be effective and still be more reckless than necessary.

Check out how the community responded:

These commenters found it bizarre that children asked a stranger to share their food

AlexArtemesia − It's wild to me that these kids would ask a total stranger for the food that person is clearly eating.

stupid_carrot − Strange for kids to be asking for food. .. are they not being fed at jome or just being annoying?

These Redditors joked that the children faced immediate consequences for their behavior

PsychologicalRoof180 − They shall reap(er) what they sow. Or something like that 🔥😀

[Reddit User] − They can’t handle the heat!

RonnieB47 − It's called FAFO and they found out.

sollykinsies − you win 🤣

These users questioned how someone could comfortably eat strong-smelling curry on a bus

garlicshrimpscampi − genuinely need to know how you eat curry on a bus

jazikatz − Ghost peppers and Carolina Reapers? I've not heard of an Indian restaurant

that uses those specifically since peppers used in Indian cuisine are taste and aroma based, the level heat is secondary.

Ghost and Carolina Reaper peppers are very high on heat but low on flavour. Also, Indian curries, grilled meats, etc.,

have a very strong, long-lingering smell, do you actually eat these types of things in an enclosed bus?

These commenters warned that bothering strangers on public transport can end badly

Occamsrazor2323 − I gather this is not in the U. S. Messing with somebody on a bus could result in a beating. Or stabbing. Or worse.

Mickleblade − Just remember, wasabi is an alternative thermonuclear attack method!

Was this harmless natural consequence, or should he have warned the child before handing it over? How would you handle a group that repeatedly bothered you during your commute? Share your take below!
