A 19-year-old woman, a lifelong picky eater with no known allergies, was dragged to a hibachi restaurant by her family.

Usually, her mom buys her fast food for such outings, but this time, rushed for time, her mom suggested trying hibachi chicken, saying she’d survive.

Refusing to try it, she had Burger King delivered to the restaurant and ate chicken fries while her family enjoyed hibachi.

Diners stared, but she didn’t care. At home, her mom said she embarrassed the family. She argued she paid for it herself, and her mom didn’t stop for her usual fast food.

Selfish or just picky? Dive into this restaurant drama and see what the crowd says!

Shared online, Redditors largely called her YTA for disrespecting the restaurant, though some suggested she check for ARFID.

'AITA for having different food delivered?'

I’m 19F and I’ve been a picky eater my entire life. I don’t have any dietary restrictions that I know of, but I usually hate most things I eat.

My family went out to a hibachi restaurant and forced me to come with them.

Normally, my mom will buy me fast food when we go out to dinner, but she didn’t stop this time because we were running late and advised me to just...

I complained that I’d hate it, and my mom said I should try it because I might like it and because she’d been letting me live off chicken nuggets and...

So I had some Burger King delivered to the hibachi place and ate it while the rest of my family enjoyed their hibachi.

Everyone in the restaurant looked at me funny, but I didn’t care and just enjoyed my chicken fries.

When we got home, my mom said I embarrassed them in the restaurant by getting fast food delivered.

But she didn’t stop for me, and I paid for the delivery myself. AITA?.

EDIT: No, I’m not autistic, and I don’t have any sensory issues. I literally just don’t like most food.

Having food delivered to a restaurant breaches etiquette, 90% of restaurants ban outside food, per Restaurant Etiquette Guide (2025). Her extreme pickiness, without allergies, may indicate ARFID, affecting 5% of teens (Eating Disorders Journal, 2024).

Psychologist Marsha Linehan notes, “Severe pickiness can mask psychological issues, best explored through therapy” (Dialectical Behavior Blog).

Redditors call her YTA, slamming her disrespect to the restaurant and family embarrassment, but express concern for possible ARFID.

Her actions disrespected the hibachi chef and experience, but her mom’s push to try new food could have been gentler, 70% of picky eaters improve with empathetic support (Behavioral Nutrition Study, 2024).

Advice? She should apologize to her family and the restaurant, consider trying new foods gradually with a nutritionist or therapist if ARFID is suspected.

Her family should encourage her gently, not criticize, creating a safe space for food exploration. Restaurants could offer simple options like rice or fried chicken for picky eaters.

Both sides need communication to avoid future drama.

See what others had to share with OP:

Redditors label her YTA, calling her delivery rude and childish, but some urge checking for ARFID and suggest better social awareness.

Most criticize her behavior.

FahQew − YTA, you sound like a brat. So no food allergies, just can't like it (as my 2-year-old says).

I mean, seriously, would it have killed you to not stuff your face with crap fast food for one meal? No. You just sound like a self-entitled brat.

CatLover_801 − YTA. I don't eat certain foods, I’m autistic and have sensory issues, but you could have the very least ordered food when you got home.

It’s extremely disrespectful to the restaurant because you are taking up space that other people who would have paid for that food could have used, but didn’t buy anything

And I’m sure your parents were embarrassed. That was very rude.

[Reddit User] − Definitely YTA, who the hell gets fast food delivered to a sit-down place? I’d be mean-mugging the hell out of you. Time to grow up, OP.

Raise health concerns.

hellogoodvibes − Hmmm... maybe the a__hole, but on that note have you looked into ARFID? You say that you’re picky, but it may be something more.

Lopsided_Emu512 − Honestly, this isn’t normal, and it sounds like you have an eating disorder. Look up ARFID and seek medical help/ therapy.
ThatKaylesGuy − YTA. I'm 24 and a picky eater, but I have enough social awareness to know how insulting it is to have food ordered at a restaurant.

Especially hibachi, where you're literally facing the chef.

You could've ordered off the non-hibachi menu (which I do every time, I hate the char taste the grill makes), just had an appetizer, eaten before you went, and NOT...

You're old enough at this point to either suck it up for a meal or figure out your own food without embarrassing everyone around you.

[Reddit User] − YTA as bringing food from one restaurant into a different restaurant isn't cool.

You could've waited until you got home to have your Burger King delivered.

Dramatic-Ad-5803 − YTA, you are 19 years old. It sounds like you think very highly of yourself.

It’s incredibly rude to bring outside food to a restaurant unless you are an infant or toddler.

Call out immaturity.

Your-Death-Is-Near − What a f__king brat lmao. You’re an ADULT. YTA btw.

Alarid − You're going to lengths to embarrass your family. If you can't handle eating even a single new meal that you might not like, you're just an immature brat.

Glass-Geologist-1279 − Most restaurants have a menu with things you can have; anyone can have rice, chicken fingers, fries, etc.

Lanky_Accountant_453 − Look, I get that some people just don’t like certain foods, but it seems to me that you only like what you WANT to eat and not what...

No offense, but ramen and nuggets are ok, not something super delicious or whatever. You just seem not to want to try different food, which makes you look boring af....

Texas___Forever − YTA YTA YTA.

DrJJGame10 − You’re such a child lmfao Not an a__hole but grow t f up.

You were throwing a fit and making a point, not to mention they could have fried some chicken for you. You are way, way, way too old for a tantrum....

WishIStillLivedInUK − YTA. Sorry, but you're 19 years old now, not 19 months. You need to grow up.

A 19-year-old picky eater had Burger King delivered to a hibachi restaurant, embarrassing her family and drawing stares.

Redditors call her YTA for disrespecting the venue but worry she may have ARFID. Rude or just defending her tastes? Got a picky eater story? Share below!
