With the inevitable arrival of the upcoming Spider-Man 4, which is still currently in its early stage of development, fans and cast members, such as Tom Holland himself, are intrigued by the possibility of Dune star Timothée Chalamet stepping into the Marvel Universe as Harry Osborn, a key character in the Spider-Man saga.
In the Spider-Man comics, Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn (The Green Goblin), plays a pivotal role in Peter Parker’s life. Previously portrayed by James Franco and Dane DeHaan in other Spider-Man adaptations, the character, for some reasons, has not yet been introduced in the current MCU films.
In a 2021 interview with the Associated Press before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland, along with co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, mused about Chalamet potentially joining the cast.
Zendaya noted, “I think he would be a good friend of Spider-Man. Or a foe of Spider-Man!”
Holland added, “I think it would be good to bring him in as a [friend] and then he kind of becomes bad, and then he can be a villain. He’d be a good villain.”
Zendaya concurred, “I think so too, which is funny ’cause he’s so nice.”
Well, unlike his father Norman, Harry Osborn didn’t appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, the door for the beloved character is still open, as Spider-Man 4 is now in progress. Little information is known about the upcoming movie, but it is said that Marvel and Sony will try to bring Peter Parker‘s adventure to a more “grounded” level, which means our friendly superhero will meet more street-level villains and characters compared to previous entries.
Besides, with the name Peter Parker completely wiped out from every person on Earth in the MCU, Tom Holland’s character is now left alone, with no allies or mentors whatsoever. This is a perfect chance for Harry Osborn to come into play, who can act as Peter’s new ally, or even, nemesis.
And when it comes to the looks and acting chops, Chalamet is perfect to portray the charismatic Harry. At 28 years of age, the actor already has an impressive Hollywood portfolio, with acclaimed titles such as the Dune franchise, Wonka, and Little Women. His age is roughly the same as Holland’s, making him a perfect candidate to play Harry, who is the same age as Peter Parker.
However, while both Holland and Zendaya were vouching for Chalamet to play Harry, the actor himself isn’t too keen of starring in a superhero movie at the moment. “One of my heroes — I can’t say who or he’d kick my ass — he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice. No drugs and no superhero movies,” the Dune actor said to Time.
Maybe in the future, Chalamet might change his mind about joining a superhero franchise, but there’s no denying that he would be an exceptional Harry Osborn in the MCU.
