Tired Neighbor Creates a Clever Trap Using a Single Coin to Quiet Down the Kids Next Door

We have all had those Sunday mornings where the world feels just a little bit too loud. Perhaps you stayed out a bit too late on Saturday, or maybe you just value your precious hours of sleep. Usually, the biggest challenge is finding the energy to make coffee.

However, one neighbor recently found themselves in a bit of a pickle when the local children decided that 8:00 a.m. was the perfect time for an outdoor concert. The sounds of joyful, yet piercing, screams drifted right into their bedroom.

Instead of walking over and having a chat with the parents, this person decided to take matters into their own hands with a truly unexpected tool: some superglue and a coin. It turned into a morning of curiosity and frustration for the kids, and a very quiet victory for the sleepy neighbor.

Let’s dive into how this funny little prank unfolded.

The Story

Neighbour’s kids woke me up with their screaming so I came up with a not so mature revenge?

so, it was Sunday. I came back from a party at Saturday, being extremely tired. And those kids go in the garden and scream around at f__king 8 a.m.

i got myself a coin (2 Euro) and glued it directly in front of the slide in the garden, so they had to see it.

The next two hours they tried to get the money, unsuccessful. Their desperate screaming and crying was music to my ears. Did they get the money?

No. They went inside to get their parents and I got the coin (got a lil knife to get it) and put it back in my pocket.

i wasn’t proud of myself, but this s__t was hilarious af. Sure, theyre still screaming in the morning, but I got what I wanted.

Oh, friend, we have all been there. That feeling of wanting just one more hour of sleep when the rest of the world has already started their day can be so tough. It is such a relatable struggle.

While the prank might seem a little bit mischievous, you can almost hear the giggle behind the story. It is a very human reaction to want a bit of a break from the noise. Of course, it is a tricky balance when you are sharing space with families. It makes me think about how much we all value our own personal quiet time. Seeing the world through a sleepy lens can certainly lead to some very funny decisions.

Expert Opinion

Living in close quarters means we are often part of a constant dance with our neighbors. Sound is one of the biggest sources of tension in any neighborhood. While many places have noise ordinances that end at 7:00 or 8:00 a.m., our internal body clocks often have their own ideas about what is appropriate.

Psychologists suggest that “noise sensitivity” can be heightened when we are tired or stressed. According to a report by Healthline, sudden loud noises can trigger a mild stress response in the body. When you are already feeling a bit worn out, those happy screams can feel like a direct attack on your well-being. This can lead to a desire for “petty” solutions to regain a sense of control over your environment.

The concept of being a “good neighbor” is actually a studied social behavior. Experts at Psychology Today often discuss the “reciprocity of kindness.” This means that when we feel our needs are ignored, we are less likely to be helpful in return.

Dr. Bella DePaulo, a social psychologist, notes that people often use humor or minor pranks to vent frustration without causing real harm. This allows a person to release their annoyance in a way that feels safe. In this story, the neighbor wasn’t trying to be truly cruel. They were simply looking for a way to distract the source of the noise.

However, many experts suggest that direct communication is usually more effective in the long run. Setting clear expectations about quiet hours on weekends can prevent these little backyard battles. It is all about finding a middle ground where kids can play and tired neighbors can get their much-needed rest. Ultimately, shared respect is the best glue for a community.

Community Opinions

The internet had some very strong feelings about this Sunday morning prank. Some found it to be a harmless bit of fun, while others thought it was a bit unfair to the kids.

Many readers felt that the neighbor should have expected noise at that hour.

traypo − Kids playing outside at 8 am on a Sunday morning. How dare they.

jasperjamboree − Don’t care if I get downvoted. 8 am isn’t that early for kids to be playing or for people to work in their gardens.

You might have been tired from partying out the night before, but that’s on you. Ear plugs are inexpensive, many cost around a €2 coin.

Dude if they waited till 8 am to have the kids outside I don't understand the frustration.

A group of commenters found the stuck coin trick to be a hilarious way to handle the situation.

[Reddit User] − The superglue coin trick is just hilarious though. When I was a kid it was a nickel glued to a nail…

lasingparuparo − Man people just aren’t getting it are they? This ain’t AITA, it’s petty revenge! The definition of petty IS trivial 😂

what they did was a minor annoyance for you so you did one back. People need to suck it up, not everyone likes kids.

Lol 😂 kids are annoying, but fun to mess with.

These neighbors believe that kids shouldn’t be allowed to scream regardless of the time.

Ok-Mission-6129 − There’s no way in hell I’ll let my kid scream in the house or in the yard ! Anytime of the day !

It’s my child, she doesn’t have to bother the neighbours. I can’t stand her screaming and it’s my own flesh and bones.

No_Noise_5733 − I would tecord their screaming then. play it back to the parents when the kids have finally gone to bed and all is quiet in their house.

Some users felt the neighbor’s reaction was a little bit over the top or perhaps even fictional.

[Reddit User] − "Their desperate screaming and crying was music to my ears", the way this is worded is creepy as f__k... stop LARPing.

If kids "Desperately" screaming and crying gives you satisfaction you should probably get yourself checked out ASAP.

Puzzleheaded_Cut4588 − So the kids were doing what kids do,

and you got upset enough over it just to mess with them? Are you OK? Do you need to seek help?

Quick recap: Kids: be kids, sometimes loud Cranky man: not around me, whippersnappers

How to Navigate a Situation Like This

If you find yourself awake and grumpy because of the sounds next door, it helps to take a little breath before acting. It is so easy to let a little bit of tiredness turn into a big frustration.

Consider using a white noise machine or some comfortable earplugs to block out the morning sounds. If the screaming is truly excessive, you might try a gentle chat with the parents during a quiet time of day. You could say, “I love seeing the kids enjoy the garden, but would it be possible to keep the noise down just a bit until 9:00 a.m. on Sundays?” Most parents are happy to help once they realize they are disturbing someone. Focusing on a kind request can build a much better relationship than a secret prank.

Conclusion

This story is a quirky reminder of how different our lives can be from our neighbors. While one person is ending their night, another is just beginning their day. Finding a way to live together peacefully is always a bit of a work in progress.

What do you think of the coin trick? Was it a harmless way to get some quiet, or was it a bit too much? We would love to know how you handle noisy mornings in your neighborhood.
