Woman Tells Dating Match She Had A Hysterectomy, He Insists God Can Regrow Her Uterus

Dating apps often encourage people to discuss their future goals early, especially when marriage and children could become major dealbreakers. Those conversations can be uncomfortable, but they become even harder when someone refuses to accept a deeply personal medical reality.

That is what happened to this woman after a match asked whether she wanted a partner, marriage, and children. She answered honestly, explaining that cancer treatment had permanently taken away her ability to carry a pregnancy.

Instead of responding with empathy, the man insisted that faith could somehow reverse what surgery had removed. His persistence eventually pushed her to give him a blunt anatomy lesson before ending the conversation for good. Scroll down to see how the exchange unfolded.

A woman’s dating match refuses to accept that cancer left her unable to have children

'No, I really can't have kids.'

I'm on Facebook dating. I met this guy and we started talking for a little while before he asks me what I want.

I said, "A partner." He said, "I want to get married and have kids." So, I reluctantly informed him that I can't have kids.

This is how the conversation went.. Him: Why can't you have kids? Don't you want kids?

Me. I want them deperately, but I can't have them.. Him: Why not?. Me. I had cancer and had to have a hysterectomy.

Him. God can make all things whole. You can have kids.. Me. Well, God can't grow me back my uterus! I really can't have kids!. Block.

From a third-person perspective, the woman entered the conversation with a clear and reasonable goal: she wanted a partner. When the man said that marriage and children were essential to him, she reluctantly disclosed that she could not have children.

This was not casual information. She desperately wanted them, had survived cancer, and had undergone a hysterectomy. Sharing those facts likely required vulnerability, especially with someone she had only recently met.

Instead of acknowledging her loss or recognizing that their long-term goals might be incompatible, the man repeatedly questioned her. Asking whether she actually wanted children ignored what she had already said.

Continuing to ask why forced her to reveal private medical history before she appeared comfortable doing so.

His final insistence that faith could make her physically able to carry a pregnancy transformed an emotionally sensitive disclosure into an argument she was expected to defend.

Another perspective is that the man may have intended to express hope rather than cruelty. Religious belief can provide profound comfort during illness, grief, and uncertainty. He may genuinely believe that miracles are possible and may have thought his statement was reassuring.

Intent, however, does not determine impact. Faith offered without sensitivity can become invalidating, particularly when it contradicts a person’s established medical reality.

The respectful response would have been compassion, followed by an honest discussion about whether biological children were a nonnegotiable part of his future.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists explains that a hysterectomy removes the uterus and that, after the procedure, a person can no longer become pregnant.

Cancer treatment can also cause infertility or eliminate the ability to carry a pregnancy. These are medical consequences, not failures of optimism or belief.

That medical reality helps explain why her blunt response was more than a sarcastic comeback. She had already survived cancer and lost a future she deeply wanted. Being told that her uterus could somehow return required her to defend both her anatomy and her grief.

Blocking him was therefore not simply punishment for an awkward comment. It was a boundary against someone who demonstrated that he might respond to painful realities by denying them.

It is also worth separating the ability to become pregnant from the broader possibility of parenthood.

Adoption, fostering, surrogacy, or other paths may be meaningful for some people, but they are intensely personal choices and should never be presented as automatic solutions to infertility. The woman had only said she could not bear children; she had not invited a stranger to redesign her future.

Ultimately, compatibility requires more than wanting the same relationship milestones. It also requires empathy when life has made those milestones complicated. The man was entitled to seek a partner who could pursue his preferred path to parenthood.

He was not entitled to interrogate a cancer survivor or overwrite her medical reality with his beliefs. Sometimes blocking someone is not an overreaction—it is recognizing early that compassion would always have to be fought for.

Here’s what the community had to contribute:

These Redditors said OP dodged a bullet by blocking an ignorant, pushy man

JasontheFuzz − I don't think he was traumatized, but you definitely dodged a bullet.

Lucy_Lastic − So he is not only pushy but also not very bright.

Consider this bullet dodged :-) Odds are he doesn't know what a hysterectomy is.

rebekahster − Well I think he was a few sandwiches short of a picnic, so blocking him is no big loss.

Aggressive_Plan_6204 − Ugh. What a troglodyte.

This group mocked his poor understanding of hysterectomies and female anatomy

ExcitementGlad2995 − A uterus can’t grow back……….

jcchandley − There are a lot of men out there who don’t have a single clue about female anatomy.

These commenters ridiculed his belief that faith could restore removed organs

CatlessBoyMom − Him: God can make all things whole. You: perhaps he should start with your reasoning skills.

Tripwire_Hunter − r/thanksimcured Oh yay, god gave me my organs back!

CaptainNemo42 − -you explain a difficult, wrenching, but incontrovertible medical *fact*

-this gibbering doorknob of a person's reply was essentially "wEll mY iNviSIblE fRIenD iN tHe SkY cAn sLaP OnE bACk iN yA aND wE cAN mAkE iT gO

*'sQUisH sQUisH'* iF yOU aSk hIM nICeLy! "

All things considered, I hope he doesn't reproduce *in general*. You can do much, much better.

And you will have a beautiful family someday, OP. Good luck!

This Redditor said the full conversation made his behavior look even worse

scienceforbid − I found the conversation and it's actually worse than I remembered.

Bear in mind this was a conversation we'd had after maybe 2 hours of talking.

Do you think his response came from ignorance, misplaced faith, or a deeper unwillingness to respect boundaries?
