Woman’s Fiancé Burns Her Dinner for Pizza Rolls, Says “Sorry,” Then Goes Straight Back to Gaming

Sometimes a seemingly minor mistake hurts far more because of what happens immediately afterward.

OP had carefully prepared dinner and put it in the oven at 400°F for 65 minutes. Her fiancé later wanted to cook pizza rolls, so he increased the oven temperature to 425°F without telling her. He cooked his food, ate it, and never mentioned that he’d changed the setting.

When OP’s dinner timer went off, she discovered that her meal had burned. She asked him about the temperature, and he admitted changing it, offered a quick “sorry,” and immediately went back to gaming.

OP ended up crying in the shower, not only because she had lost her dinner but because the situation made her feel overlooked and unimportant. She’s now wondering whether to let the incident go or explain how much his casual response hurt her.

Fiancé burns her dinner while cooking his food, then casually apologizes and returns to gaming

not the actual photo

'AIO: My fiancé burned my dinner to cook his, and just said “sorry” before going back to his gaming. I’m crying in my shower?'

It’s exact how it’s stated.. My dinner was in the oven at 400 for 65 mins.. He wanted pizza rolls and that apparently needs to be at 425 degrees.

Instead of letting me know so I can adjust my timer, or even putting a timer on himself,

he cranked up the heat to 425, cooked, and then ate his pizza rolls all without letting me know.

My timer goes off, and I go into the kitchen smelling burnt food confused. I look at my supposed-to-be dinner then at the temperature setting.

I go back into the room dreading the answer and trying not to immediately cry.. “hey did you turn the temperature of the oven up?”

“Oh yeah, I’m sorry about that. I forgot”. And goes right back to f__king gaming.

I drove outside for all of 2 mins before sobbing because at this point I’m so pissed that I’m not even hungry anymore.

Now I’m in the shower sobbing my heart out and writing this. Am I overreacting right now, or should I just let it go?

I’m on my period right now and can’t think clearly on whether I should let my feelings be known or keep it to myself. I’m just so disappointed right now.

Sometimes the smallest domestic mistakes hurt far more than their practical consequences suggest. A ruined dinner is replaceable. The feeling that someone changed something important, noticed the result, apologized casually, and immediately returned to their own entertainment can feel much harder to replace.

The fiancée in this story was not simply crying over burnt food. She had prepared a meal that required a specific temperature and timing, only to discover that her fiancé changed the oven setting for his own food without telling her. When confronted, he acknowledged it with a quick “sorry” and went straight back to gaming.

That sequence likely communicated something much bigger than he intended: her time, effort, and dinner did not seem important enough to interrupt his game.

A different perspective is that the fiancé may genuinely have treated the mistake as minor. He may not have understood that changing the temperature would materially affect her food, especially if he assumed she would notice the altered setting. Forgetfulness does not automatically mean disrespect.

But intention is only one part of an interaction. Repeatedly failing to consider how one’s actions affect a partner can create emotional exhaustion even when no individual incident seems enormous.

Relationship researcher John Gottman emphasizes that successful couples build what he calls a culture of appreciation, where partners regularly notice and respond to each other’s needs rather than treating those contributions as invisible.

His research also identifies turning toward a partner’s bids for attention and connection as an important part of relationship stability.

That perspective makes the emotional reaction easier to understand. The important moment may not have been the oven at all. It was the response afterward.

A more caring reaction could have been recognizing the mistake, checking whether another meal could be made, helping clean up, or simply sitting with her while she was upset. Instead, he returned immediately to gaming, leaving her alone with the consequence.

Her period does not invalidate her feelings either. Hormonal changes can influence mood and emotional sensitivity, but that does not mean an upset person is automatically irrational. The fact that she is menstruating may amplify the intensity of the moment, but it does not manufacture the underlying problem.

Still, she does not need to decide the fate of the relationship while crying in the shower. Once she has calmed down, she can explain that the burnt dinner was frustrating, but what hurt more was feeling as though he could disrupt her plans and then simply walk away. His response to that conversation will be much more informative than the original mistake.

If he understands, takes responsibility, and changes the behavior, this may become an irritating story they eventually laugh about. If he consistently minimizes her feelings and expects her to absorb the consequences of his choices, then the oven incident may be revealing something much bigger.

The dinner can be replaced. Feeling considered by the person you plan to marry is much harder to replace.

Here’s what the community had to contribute:

These Redditors saw the incident as proof he may be too selfish and immature for marriage

HeyItsKriss − You're crying because you realise this man is not husband material. He is showing you his true colours.

Better you see it before marriage rather than after.

Little_Emu_ − I’m guessing this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Don’t think about potential.

Think about what he’s showing you right now about how much your needs and feelings matter.

Are you prepared to feel variations of this disappointment and disregard for the rest of your life?

YNABDisciple − Find a real man don’t marry this selfish child. Marrying the wrong person is so much worse than being single

RepulsiveFinding9419 − The incident in and of itself seems minor, but it’s not about pizza rolls, it’s about this guy showing his true colors.

Selfishness. Lack of respect. Narcissistic. It’s amazing that a seemingly small act can tell you volumes about the person who carries it out.

Unless you are ending this relationship as soon as you get out of the shower, you are under reacting.

Tall-Mango4759 − Sounds like he’s missing braincells. Why are you with this i__ot?

This group felt ruining her meal was inconsiderate, especially since he made no effort to fix it

VanEagles17 − What a dipshit. He knows he can just put his food in there for an extra few minutes at 400 right? NOR, it's inconsiderate.

Korneedles − He respects gaming more than he respects you. You are NOR. You put time into making yourself a meal.

He didn’t offer to fix his mistake. It’s one thing to mess up but it’s a whole different thing to not hold yourself accountable and make things right.

If he respected you, he’d offer to get/make you food. He’d make sure you were fed.

BerzerkBankie − Pizza rolls aren't even that good. I mean they are but not "p__s off your fiance and ruin her dinner" good. NOR

These commenters urged OP to focus on the pattern of disregard, not just this one small incident

Environmental-Crazy9 − Pack a bag and leave for a few days. This post-pubescent male doesn't care about your health and needs.

Call him while you're away to explain why you needed a break. If he's still dismissive, I'm afraid you might have to break up with him.

leolawilliams5859 − My sister I would have let the PMS fly..

Was crying over the burnt meal an overreaction, or was she reacting to feeling dismissed? And before getting married, how much weight should someone give to seemingly small moments like this?
