The 2024 NFL season is already looking grim for the Dallas Cowboys. Although they sit at 3-3, their recent 47-9 blowout loss to the Detroit Lions highlighted just how far they are from being a true contender in the NFC.
The lack of urgency from owner and general manager Jerry Jones this offseason has led to growing frustration among fans. Despite proclaiming he was committed to building a winning team, the Cowboys have not played with the intensity needed for success.
With the team in disarray, many fans are left wondering what changes could be made if Jones weren’t calling the shots. Here are three players the Cowboys should pursue to turn their season around.
3. Trade for Haason Reddick
The New York Jets made headlines when they traded a third-round pick for Haason Reddick, expecting him to be a key pass rusher. However, Reddick has yet to play a snap due to a holdout for a new contract.
The Cowboys should consider swooping in for a trade. While the Jets insist they aren’t trading him, Reddick’s absence could force them to reconsider. Acquiring Reddick would provide the Cowboys with a much-needed boost to their pass rush, especially with Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence sidelined by injuries.
2. Acquire Davante Adams
In the aftermath of their Week 6 loss, it’s clear the Cowboys need a reliable second receiver. Dak Prescott’s struggles were evident as he threw for just 178 yards, with CeeDee Lamb accounting for half of that.
Davante Adams has been at the center of trade rumors for weeks. The Cowboys should act quickly to acquire him, especially since the Las Vegas Raiders may be willing to let him go in the final year of his deal. Adams would complement Lamb and greatly improve the offense’s chances of success.
1. Add Travis Etienne to the Roster
The Cowboys’ decision to let Tony Pollard go in favor of Ezekiel Elliott is looking increasingly questionable. Elliott has averaged just 3.0 yards per carry this season, and the team’s rushing attack ranks dead last in the NFL.
Acquiring Travis Etienne from the Jacksonville Jaguars could be a game-changer. Despite his struggles this season, Etienne possesses the talent to elevate the Cowboys’ running game. A change of scenery could reignite his career and provide Dallas with a much-needed boost in the ground game.
