Uncle Is Horrified To Find Explicit Imagery On The Family PC After Mocking His Nephews Job Search

in Social Issues

Everyone has that one family member who constantly criticizes or makes snide remarks, and for OP (25M), it’s his uncle.

After struggling with unemployment, OP’s uncle made repeated comments about his job search and compared him to his more successful son, all while OP quietly helped him out with a computer issue.

Frustrated by his uncle’s remarks, original poster (OP) decided to take a passive-aggressive approach, by setting an inappropriate background on his uncle’s computer.

The next day, his uncle called to yell at him about the offensive image, and OP refused to fix it, leaving his uncle to deal with the consequences.

Now, OP is questioning whether his prank went too far. Was he being a jerk, or was this a justified response to constant disrespect? Scroll down to find out more about this messy family dynamic!

Man pranks uncle with explicit desktop after repeated insults and snide comments

not the actual photo

'AITA For setting my Uncle's desktop background to g_y p_rn?'

Throwaway and I also reposted this to remove a political comment that is against the rules.

My uncle is a giant p__ck, a couple years ago

when I was unemployed he would constantly ask me "so how's the job search going?"

and when I told him the obvious, he'd snicker

and make a comment like "if you just had the confidence to meet people

and ask for work you could be making big bucks by now"

and he constantly compares me to his son and how much more successful he is.

So my uncle's computer had an issue with it and he asked if I could help fix it

since I am the "tech" guy in my family.

The issue was actually kinda complex so it took me awhile,

and the whole time my uncle would pass by me

and say "wow still not fixed yet?" and other snide comments,

despite me taking time out of my day to help him without pay.

He headed to the store and I was able to fix it,

but before I left I set his desktop background to an image of a guy straddling another guy,

full nudity, full penetration.

Since he's a dumbass, I figured he'd have problem changing his background back to normal.

I turned off the computer and left.

He calls me up the next day yelling that there is "something disgusting" on his PC,

I told him it must be some kind of virus and he continued to yell at me to fix it.

I refused this time.

Was I being an a__hole for doing this?

His PC works now but all his commentary really ticked me off.

Plus the computer is supposedly the family computer as well just to give full disclosure.

In this situation, it’s clear that there’s a lot of built-up frustration and resentment from OP towards their uncle.

The uncle’s repeated jabs, condescending comments, and rude comparisons to his son seem to have created a toxic dynamic between them, which ultimately led OP to act out in a way that was petty but somewhat justified in their eyes.

OP was asked to help the uncle with a technical issue, and while they did so without expecting any payment, they were met with sarcastic comments and belittling remarks during the process.

This behavior naturally left OP feeling disrespected and undervalued. Many people can relate to being in a situation where they help someone, only to have their efforts dismissed or mocked.

It’s hurtful, especially when you’re doing something without expecting anything in return. It’s understandable that OP, feeling frustrated and unappreciated, acted out by setting a shocking desktop background for the uncle as a form of retaliation.

Psychologically, the act can be understood as a coping mechanism. When people feel powerless or constantly belittled, they may resort to passive-aggressive behavior to reclaim a sense of control.

OP was essentially trying to level the playing field in a way that made them feel powerful again after enduring the uncle’s constant mockery. This is often a response to feeling like you’ve been taken advantage of or disrespected for a long time.

It’s a way of saying, “You can’t treat me like this and expect to get away with it.”

However, even though OP’s actions may have been understandable from an emotional perspective, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that they intentionally set up a situation designed to embarrass their uncle.

While it’s natural to want to get back at someone who has been rude to you, it’s important to consider whether the act is fair and whether it will resolve the underlying issue.

Setting up a shocking and inappropriate desktop background could be seen as crossing a line, especially since the computer is a shared family resource.

The intention may have been to provoke the uncle, but it could also have unintended consequences, making OP’s actions feel like a form of retaliation that’s excessive.

In conclusion, while OP wasn’t entirely out of line in wanting to stand up for themselves after feeling disrespected, their method of doing so, using the uncle’s computer to get back at him, was petty and didn’t effectively resolve the situation.

It’s a clear case of emotional frustration taking over logical reasoning. Going forward, OP may find it more effective to address their uncle’s behavior directly by expressing their feelings and setting boundaries, rather than resorting to passive-aggressive retaliation.

After all, true resolution comes from clear communication, not from playing games to “get even.”

Check out how the community responded:

This group raised the most serious objections

PrincessofPatriarchy − I don't think it's really that funny

to use gay people as the b__t of a joke.

"Hahaha it's funny because g_y s__ is gross! Amiright?"

No, it's long past time for g_y people to stop being the go-to prank.

In addition I just don't think it's cool to expose people to s__ual content

without their consent.

It would be s__ual harassment in the workplace, indecent if done in public

and in this case there's not really a legal provision against this

but I don't like using s__ as a weapon against other people in general.

I don't like the precedent it tends to set.

He sounds like he's an a__hole and generally rude and arrogant.

You were doing him a favor and he insulted you.

But, I don't agree with the retaliation. Especially since it's a family computer

and not his personal one. ESH.

[Reddit User] − Honestly. .. I'm not sure about you OP.

Everything your uncle said could be interpreted multiple ways.

The stuff about confidence e. t. c could be his way of trying to help, even though unwelcome.

Comparing you to his son isn't weird either

that's where all his parenting experience came from.

He ain't your daddy but also you didn't tell him to shut it as far as I know.

And his comments about the PC could just mean

he was surprised by the complexity of the problem,

not impatient with your ability to solve the problem.

Kind of feels like you don't like your uncle and interpret his words

through that negative lens but it's hard to tell without hearing his tone.

ESH because he should be more aware of his words,

you should tell him how you feel when he does say that stuff,

and finally because you should never force someone to view p_rn.

That's crossing a lot of boundaries

which is what you acused your uncle of doing.

Corgiboop − YTA. If you don't like him then don't fix the computer or talk to him.

Dont s__ually harass him.

These Redditors focused on the collateral damage

sabre_skills − YTA Only because. .. the computer is supposedly

the family computer as well Otherwise, it's hilarious.

LuckyFishBone − YTA because you knew it was the family computer.

VanitasReigns − I was on board with petty, but justified and not an a__hole,

until you said that it was a family computer. ESH, but funny prank.

Every prank is a little bit assholish, but it's all in good fun.

As long as you aren't harming anybody. I would remove it at some point though,

because this is still a family machine.

This group focused on the “Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right” principle

Joan_of_Arquebus − ESH. Yes, he's mistreating you, but your move was also not ok.

Also, why would you fix his computer for free?

Next time tell him you learned from his wisdom and demand $50 per hour to do it.

verascity − ESH. This is literally a case of "two wrongs don't make a right. "

seminarysmooth − ESH. This is another example of even though someone does some thing

a-hole-ish to you doesn’t mean your reaction isn’t automatically NTA.

This group represents the “Glorious A-hole” contingent

G00DANG − YTA - But thats f__king hilarious. He deserves it,

but I dunno if I would go as far to call him a full a__hole in this situation.

Good prank though!

rawbface − ESH, but that was glorious.

[Reddit User] − YTA. . A glorious a__hole that totally deserves a hearty LOL

and a pat on the back!

This story is a definition of “Technical Chaos”, where the tech guy of the family decides to charge a very specific kind of tax for years of verbal abuse.

While the uncle thought he was just offering “tough love” advice on confidence and career success, he failed to realize that the person holding the screwdriver has the ultimate power to rewrite the digital landscape.

By leaving that specific image behind, the OP didn’t just fix a hardware issue; they left a ticking social time bomb on the one machine the uncle is too “digitally illiterate” to manage.

The disclosure that this is a “family computer” adds a layer of absolute carnage to the revenge.

It’s no longer just a prank on a snide uncle; it’s a public-facing embarrassment that forces him to explain to the entire household why “full penetration” is greeting them during breakfast.

By refusing to “fix the virus,” the OP has effectively trapped the uncle in a prison of his own technical incompetence, proving that confidence might get you a job, but humility keeps your desktop background clean.

Do you think the OP’s “NSFW” prank was a hilarious bit of cosmic justice, or did they overplay their hand by involving a family computer in a personal grudge? How would you handle a relative who demands free labor while treating you like a failure? Share your hot takes below!
