The newly released “Deadpool & Wolverine” has already taken the box office by storm, breaking records and earning rave reviews.
This exciting film marks the debut of both Wolverine and Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) while also bringing back beloved characters from the past Marvel franchises, such as Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes‘ Blade, and Chris Evans’ Human Torch.
Among these returning characters is X-23, portrayed by Dafne Keen. Despite Keen’s earlier denials about her involvement, it was revealed just days before the film’s global premiere that she indeed plays X-23.
Her inclusion makes perfect sense given her pivotal role in “Logan” (2017) and the numerous nods to that film throughout “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
In this latest installment, viewers meet an older X-23, and Dafne Keen recently confirmed on Phase Zero that her character in the MCU is indeed the same one from “Logan.”
Keen shared her thoughts on how her character transitioned between the two films:
“I was like, so how long has it been, am I a variant, what’s going on and they were like: ‘Not variant, you went along with kids for a few years and then you got zapped and you’ve been in the TVA for a few years now.
You lost your accent because you were in America for a while and like Canada and stuff, you’ve lost your accent, you’re a very intelligent kid, you learned English while you were with Logan, like, you’re clever. To you, you are Logan’s Laura and so seeing this person is whoa this is my dad, who I haven’t seen in years.’”
Keen discussed the journey of her character between the events of “Logan” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” though she didn’t delve into why the TVA “zapped” her.
Based on the film’s storyline, it appears that X-23 was removed from her timeline to prevent her from interfering with Mr. Paradox‘s plan to annihilate reality.
In the movie, the Void—a containment zone for heroes who might disrupt these plans—is managed by Cassandra Nova, who oversees it in exchange for ultimate authority, a deal made with Paradox.
Keen has expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role in future MCU projects, and fans are eagerly rallying online, pushing for her to become the MCU’s Wolverine.
