Dan Levy has signed a first-look movie contract and an overall written content agreement with Netflix, under which he will write and produce, a year after winning four Primetime Emmys for the smash comedy series Schitt’s Creek.
Dan Levy career
Dan Levy’s cinematic career will get out with an unnamed original romantic comedy that he will direct, write, produce, and feature in. Along with Dan Levy, Stacey Snider and Kate Fenske of Sister will produce. When his current three-year overall agreement with ABC Signature expires in July 2022, the multi-hyphenate will begin working on the series.
Dan Levy said “Netflix offered Schitt’s Creek a second home at just the right time and opened the doors to a whole new audience for us. Watching the show thrive there has only enhanced my excitement about continuing to tell specific, meaningful stories with them in both tv and feature film. A full-circle moment.”
“Dan Levy is an incredible all-around creative talent, who thoughtfully approaches every story with a meaningful perspective,” Scott Stuber, Head of Global Film, and Bela Bajaria, Head of Global Series, said. “His work on Schitt’s Creek charmed audiences around the world and we’re thrilled to partner and create new films and shows with Dan.
Dan Levy and Netflix agreement
When his Netflix TV agreement begins in July 2022, Dan Levy will remain exclusive to ABC Signature, where he is presently developing three live-action projects as well as the animated comedy Standing By, which has a Hulu presentation order.
Last year, Schitt’s Creek earned a total of nine Primetime Emmy Awards. Outstanding Comedy Series, Supporting Actor Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing and Directing Comedy Series, Lead Actor Comedy Series (Eugene Levy), Lead Actress Comedy Series (Catherine O’Hara), Supporting Actress Comedy Series (Annie Murphy), Outstanding Casting, and Contemporary Costumes were among the trophies counted by Levy.
At the 2020 Emmys, Schitt’s Creek set many milestones, including the most awards for a comedy series in a single year, the first comedy series to win an award in all four main acting categories in the same year, and the most wins for a comedy series in its last season. Dan Levy equaled for the most victories by an individual in a single season and became the first person to win four main categories in a single year (acting, directing, writing, and producing).
Dan Levy appeared in the Kristen Stewart-led romantic comedy The Happiest Season, which premiered on Hulu last Thanksgiving and quickly became one of the streaming service’s most popular original films.
