Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is set to bring more holiday haunts to theaters. Universal Pictures has officially announced that the film will be released on December 5, 2025.
This news, reported by Deadline, has fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the chilling franchise.
Emma Tammi to Return as Director
The sequel will be helmed by Emma Tammi, reuniting with the first film after steering it. This is particularly interesting, given previous reports that hinted the second film will keep delivering returning characters from that film played by Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard.
In that first film, Hutcherson’s character, Mike Schmidt, found the secret that kept Freddy Fazbear and his animatronic friends attached to Springtrap. This led to Lillard’s character, William Afton, being mutilated and transformed into that now-infamous villain.
Matthew Lillard clearly has more involvement in this series, as it was previously announced that he had signed for three films: the 2023 original and then appearances in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and another follow-up.
This was seemingly confirmed by the actor himself, who shared an Instagram post wearing the Springtrap costume while hanging out with a Scooby-Doo doll, playing on the villain’s catchphrase.

While the storyline of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is still being kept under wraps, fans have been speculating that a change in location will be implemented, with several speculating that it will be set in a new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location.
Also, it has been said that while shooting was happening, a build of Mangle—another animatronic from the second game—was being created. So, it does seem logical for more elements of the game series to be implemented into the movie.
The first did have its own tapestry, after all, to talk about the game from 2014 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 in order to tell their own tale.
So, the continuation expects, and fans more than likely hope, to see the man and a few supporters close in on Afton, who is now Springtrap under different, far more horrifying circumstances, alive and kicking.
Herein lies the excitement: how fans would see the game series’ most notable characters adapted to a fun, popcorn-style cinematic experience.
So mark your calendars this December 5, 2025, when Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 comes to theaters which is sure to give another round of chills and holiday haunts.
