Woman Lets Her Ex’s Lies Catch Up With Him, And His Own Drama Ends The Relationship

Sometimes the best revenge is not a dramatic confrontation but simply letting someone’s own choices catch up with them.

The original poster spent months dealing with a difficult ex before finally cutting contact and moving on. When the ex later tried to reopen communication while hiding the truth from someone else in his life, the poster decided not to argue or expose him directly.

Instead, one small change on social media was enough to create the consequences he had been avoiding. What happened next proved that some people don’t need help ruining their own plans.

'Petty revenge on my ex way after our break up'

So my ex was a real piece of work and made my life absolute hell before I finally had him removed by the cops.

I never retaliated, just quietly blocked him. Months later, he begged for closure while secretly moving in with his ex.

She ended up messaging me with a bunch of abuse, which I immediately shut down by sending her screenshots of him begging for me back.

Fast forward a year. I randomly remembered he had a holiday booked and checked his social media.

He was away sunning himself, which reminded me he had complained that his "crazy" ex girlfriend regularly check his Facebook to make sure I was still blocked.

If my photos popped back up, she'd know he was lying.. Here’s the catch: he never actually blocked me. I had *him* blocked.

Knowing she would be tracking his profile while he was away, I simply unblocked him and let his own lies do the work.

The very next day, I checked his socials again. He posted a frantic update that he had to drop out of an upcoming event

because his ex girlfriend had just kicked him out and he suddenly had nowhere to live.

I never thought of myself as an evil genius, but I think I wear it well.

Sometimes the most satisfying revenge is not a dramatic confrontation, but simply allowing someone’s own choices to catch up with them.

After experiencing betrayal or mistreatment, many people struggle with the desire to make the other person understand the damage they caused. But often, the strongest response is stepping away and letting reality reveal the truth.

In this situation, the OP’s revenge was not about destroying her ex’s life through direct action. It came from years of frustration after feeling manipulated, mistreated, and dragged into unnecessary drama. She had already chosen the healthier path by blocking him and moving forward.

The later decision to unblock him was less about creating a new conflict and more about removing herself from the role of protecting him from the consequences of his own dishonesty. His problems were not created by OP; they came from the lies he had told to multiple people.

A different perspective is that revenge can sometimes feel powerful because it restores a sense of control after someone has taken advantage of us. When people experience betrayal, they often feel powerless because they cannot force another person to admit wrongdoing or apologize sincerely.

Watching someone face the consequences of their own behavior can feel like justice. However, the most important part of this story is not the ex’s downfall, it is that OP no longer carried responsibility for maintaining a false image of him.

Psychologist Judith Orloff has written about emotional boundaries and how protecting one’s own mental health often requires stepping away from unhealthy relationship patterns. She explains that boundaries help people separate their own responsibilities from the emotions, choices, and behaviors of others.

This insight connects strongly to OP’s situation. For a long time, the ex appeared to rely on controlling information and managing different versions of the truth with different people. Once OP stopped participating in that system, she no longer had to defend herself, explain herself, or help maintain his stories. His relationship problems became his responsibility.

That does not mean revenge is always the healthiest solution. Holding onto anger can keep someone emotionally connected to the person who hurt them. In this case, the most meaningful victory was not the social media discovery, it was the fact that OP had already rebuilt distance and stopped allowing her ex to control her life.

The biggest lesson is that closure does not always come from a final conversation. Sometimes closure comes from realizing you no longer need someone else to understand what they did. When people build their lives around honesty and accountability, they eventually have to face the consequences when those values are missing.

Let’s dive into the reactions from Reddit:

These commenters praised the revenge as clever and satisfying

Ohaibaipolar − Delicious. No seasoning needed.

heckinstoned − Man, that’s a good one. Years after I left my ex, I used his phone # at Kroger gas station and used all his points for like $1...

It was right before summer and he saved them for boat/quads etc gas…. And I stole em! Hahahahahah take that

Piddy3825 − petty revenge - *best served unblocked...*

Unicorn71_ − I've always said revenge is a dish best served cold. In your case OP with very little effort required too Pure class👏.

TWOWManiac − Hey. I think this goes in the Nuclear section. Other than that, you got that bozo good!

Glum-Ad7761 − Like a doctor… of fricken evil. Glorious!

These commenters questioned the story’s clarity and believability

anneylani − I read this 3x and Im not following. I have FB so I'm familiar with it, but this just left me confused.

How do your photos pop up by unblocking him? Pop up for who/ where? Is the exgf his current GF again and then she threw him out?

JJQuantum − I mean that’s a perfect post for this group but for your own mental health just move on from this guy. Quit giving him rental space in your...

sonal1988 − Stories that don't make sense because AI doesn't know how human interaction works

thejaysta4 − Chefs kiss! Superb!

Is this the perfect example of quiet revenge, or is the best revenge simply moving on? Would you have done the same thing, or walked away completely? Share your thoughts below!
