Woman’s Roommate Kept Using Her Makeup Without Asking – So She Taught Her a Lesson She’d Never Forget

Living with roommates can be a blessing or a total nightmare. Especially when one of them thinks “sharing” means helping themselves to your expensive stuff.

One Redditor learned this the hard way when their roommate wouldn’t stop dipping into their pricey foundation, despite countless warnings.

But instead of yelling or starting a fight, they decided to let karma work, with a little orange-tinted help. Their weapon of choice?

A dollar-store foundation spiked with self-tanner. What followed was an unforgettable night, a glowing face (literally), and Reddit cheering for the most satisfying revenge ever.

This Redditor’s tale is a masterclass in petty genius!

Roommate Kept Using My Makeup Without Asking, So I Made Sure She’d Never Do It Again?

I shared an apartment with a girl who had no concept of boundaries.

She constantly “borrowed” my stuff without asking clothes, shoes, and worst of all, my makeup.

I told her countless times to stop, but she always brushed it off like it wasn’t a big deal.

The last straw came when I found out she had used my expensive foundation for a party and didn’t even bother cleaning the bottle.

That’s when I decided it was time to teach her a lesson.

I went out and bought a cheap, old foundation from the dollar store and swapped it with mine, adding a bit of self-tanner to the mix.

I left it in plain sight on my vanity and waited. Sure enough, the next weekend, she waltzed out of the bathroom with an orange face.

I didn’t say a word as she headed off to her party. The next day, she came home furious, complaining that people had been laughing at her all night.

I just smiled and said, “Oh no, maybe it wasn’t your shade.” She didn’t touch my stuff again after that.

Expert Opinion

Roommate drama can quickly turn even the nicest apartment into a battlefield. In this case, the Redditor had reached their breaking point.

Their roommate had borrowed clothes, shoes, and makeup without asking. But the final straw came when the Redditor’s expensive foundation, carefully matched to their skin tone, was used up and left in a sticky mess.

After warning her several times and getting brushed off with excuses like, “It’s just makeup, relax,” the Redditor came up with a plan that was part prank, part payback.

They bought a cheap foundation from a dollar store, mixed in a healthy dose of self-tanner, and left it right where the roommate could “borrow” it again. And borrow it she did.

The roommate strutted into a party looking confident, until laughter started spreading through the room. The orange hue wasn’t subtle. By the end of the night, she’d earned a new nickname: “Tropicana.”

The prank might sound harsh, but many readers found it hilarious and oddly satisfying. After all, how many times can someone ignore boundaries before they deserve a lesson in consequences?

Let’s be real, roommate life is tricky. Sharing space doesn’t mean sharing everything. When someone keeps taking your stuff despite being told not to, frustration builds fast.

The Redditor’s silent revenge may have been a little sneaky, but it made a clear point: respect personal property, or risk glowing like a traffic cone.

According to a 2021 study by Apartment List, 47% of renters have argued with roommates about shared items or responsibilities, often because they never discussed clear boundaries in the first place.

This story shows exactly how those problems can spiral, when people ignore warnings, small irritations can turn into big drama.

Psychologist Dr. Irene Levine, writing for Psychology Today in 2019, explained: “Setting clear boundaries early in a roommate relationship can prevent resentment, but when that fails, creative solutions may be needed.”

The Redditor’s creative solution might not be textbook advice, but it sure worked. The roommate learned the hard way that ignoring someone’s limits can backfire, brightly.

Still, not everyone on Reddit agreed with the approach. Some users thought the prank was hilarious and harmless.

Others said it might have gone too far and that the Redditor could’ve locked their makeup or had one final honest talk instead.

But as most commenters agreed, sometimes words just don’t work, especially when you’re dealing with someone who doesn’t listen.

Lesson Learned

When someone crosses your boundaries over and over again, it’s tempting to fight back. But before mixing up your own bottle of revenge, it’s worth trying a few calmer fixes. You can:

  • Have a direct talk (again) and set clear “hands-off” rules.

  • Keep your stuff in a lockbox or private drawer.

  • Write up roommate agreements to avoid future misunderstandings.

And if all else fails, well, maybe just label your foundation “WARNING: May cause orange glow.”

Let’s dive into the reactions from Reddit:

Some users called it “the most glamorous revenge of all time,” while others dubbed it “orange justice.”

TheSarcasticDevil − Did she not use a mirror when applying it? How did she not notice before leaving the house? 🤣

Heebie-jeebies386 − Nice . I knew someone who’s roommate like to use her perfume . So pried it open when it got low and peed in it.

Hid her new bottle and left the p__s cologne out . Chick doused herself in p__s and was none the wiser 🤣. Fabulous job on the foundation concoction.

SignificantFee266 − My mom worked at a factory where in the locker room, each woman was assigned a cubbie where you leave your coat, personal belongings, etc.

There was one woman who constantly "borrowed" personal items, such as make up, hairspray, etc. and refused to stop when asked.

One lady solved the problem of hairspray - she painstakingly faked a can of RED SPRAY PAINT

with the label of a popular can of hairspray, sat it on the shelf in her cubbie and left the locker room.

She had filled in her friends and they were all just waiting for the "thief" to walk out of the locker room.

They weren't denied for she came out of the locker room in a hurry, with a head of red paint. I would have given anything to have witnessed that!

Many cheered the Redditor’s patience and creativity, saying it was satisfying to see a boundary finally respected.

invasiveclouds − maybe you should lock your room, in case she catches on and does the same thing with your stuff

Stoltefusser − Sweet ChatGPT story

Discount_Mithral − I went to college with a girl whose roommate did the same thing. My friend had a little sister who happened to come down with a n__ty case...

She gave her mascara to her little sister for a weekend, then came home with it.

Her roommate used it without asking and the next day it was obvious the pinkeye had spread.

She said it worked, her roommate never borrowed her stuff again.

BurlinghamBob − I lived in a small apartment building where the tenants could have their washing machines in the basement.

Someone kept using our machine at night. Leaving notes and even taking the knobs off didn't stop them. They used pliers to set the cycles.

I cured my problem by emptying a box of Ritz royal blue dye in the washer. They didn't use it after that.

A few people, though, pointed out that revenge can make things awkward when you still have to share a living space.

toeaway25 − Today on this never happened.

CoderJoe1 − Did you start calling her an Oompa Loompa after that?

StromGames − like it wasn’t a big deal I hate this. People always pretending something isn't a big deal when it's not something happening to them.

You have no f__king idea if it's a big deal for me or not. You have no right to dismiss my concerns as if they don't mean anything.

This Redditor’s orange-tinted revenge turned a frustrating situation into a viral comedy. The prank was funny, harmless, and, most importantly, effective.

The roommate finally learned to keep her hands off what wasn’t hers, and the Redditor got a well-deserved laugh. But behind the laughter lies a simple truth: setting boundaries early can save a lot of trouble later.

Was this a clever dose of poetic justice or a step too far? How would you handle a roommate who can’t stop “borrowing” your stuff? Share your thoughts below, preferably before someone swaps your foundation, too!
