Lindsay Lohan later confirmed that Curtis had approached her about the idea while she was working on another project.
“Jamie Lee Curtis writes you, and you just get excited and distracted immediately, so I had to bring myself back down to earth,” Lohan told Jimmy Fallon. “And then she said, Freaky Friday 2, and I got more excited.” (via People)
Fast forward two years, and Freaky Friday 2 is finally happening. Curtis dropped a hint on March 29 by reposting a selfie with Lohan from their November 2023 reunion.
She captioned the post with “DUH! FFDEUX” and tagged Disney and Disney Plus. Shortly after, Disney confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. So, it’s official: Freaky Friday 2 is on the way.

Who is involved?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nisha Ganatra (known for “Welcome to Chippendales”) has been chosen to direct the project. However, there’s still ongoing negotiation regarding Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles from the 2003 comedy.
Despite this, it seems both Curtis and Lohan are enthusiastic about returning. Curtis not only shared a selfie with Lohan but also posted a picture with Ganatra and Jordan Weiss, the writer of Dollface, captioning it with “Girl power! We are just missing a hot redhead and the team would be complete.”
In response to the mention, Lindsay shared the photo on her Instagram Story, humorously writing, “Well, ok mom! 🙈🥰🎸🎤”
When will it be released?
There hasn’t been an official announcement yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is aiming to begin filming this summer.
What’s the plot?
As per a casting call shared by CAPE, it appears that Jamie Lee Curtis will indeed see her wish fulfilled regarding grandchildren in Freaky Friday 2.
In the film’s plot, Anna Coleman (portrayed by Lindsay Lohan) now has a 14-year-old daughter named Harper. The storyline revolves around Harper’s attempts to prevent a wedding between her “longtime single mom” and “British restaurateur Eric Davies.”
The casting call elaborated further, stating, “If that wasn’t bad enough, Eric comes with his own 14-year-old daughter, the sharp-tongued Lily. Harper and Lily find themselves at odds, with Harper aiming to assert control and use her intellect to halt the impending marriage.”
