A fresh look from Captain America: Brave New World unveils Sam Wilson’s latest blue and red stripes superhero suit, marking a significant shift from his earlier attire in our previous article.
Anthony Mackie, reprising his role as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, gears up to lead the fourth Captain America installment. Following his transformative journey in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mackie’s character will headline Captain America: Brave New World, embarking on a thriller that echoes the action-packed, government-undercover vibes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Empire magazine recently gave fans a glimpse of Wilson’s revamped costume for the upcoming movie.
The suit incorporates the classic red and white, paying homage to Steve Rogers‘ Captain America, yet introduces a sleek, dark blue that hints at a stealthier approach, distinct from Sam’s earlier white gear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
And of course, in usual Marvel fashion, Sam’s new suit differs in a few key ways from the ones worn by Steve Rogers. Notably, Sam opts for a red visor instead of a full helmet like the predecessor, a pair of visors he has worn from his Falcon days. Additionally, although he’s passed on his previous winged suit to Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon, Sam’s updated Captain America costume will retain a set of wings, giving him the advantage in airborne combat.
Sam Wilson first showcased his iconic comic-accurate Captain America suit, in the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Now, as he steps into the lead role in Captain America: Brave New World, he dons a more traditional dark blue outfit, with red-and-white stripes similar to what Rogers used to wear. Director Julius Onah hints at the complexities Sam faces in his new role, finding himself torn between the antagonist The Leader, and his obligations to the government.
The shift in Sam’s costume reflects Marvel Studios’ tendency to update heroes’ looks with each new appearance. Even before Captain America: Brave New World premiered, Sam’s costume has undergone several changes already, or Marvel decided to give him multiple outfits in the movie.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to delve deep into Sam’s new role as the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan, exploring his interactions with the American government, the populace, and the ever-present threat of supervillains.
“Part of the challenge for Sam as Captain America, working within the government, is the way he’s going to make decisions,” teases Onah.
Onah also teases that Sam’s decisions and viewpoints as Captain America might frequently clash with those of the U.S. President and will bring him into a direct conflict with Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns, who fans will remember from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
“Sam finds himself almost standing between Samuel Sterns and what he thinks the government owes him, and how he wants to go about getting that,” the director added.
With Captain America: Brave New World isn’t released worldwide until February 14, 2025, there is still plenty of time to see whether Marvel will make any more changes to Sam Wilson’s new suit or not.
