The stakes for Warner Bros.’ I Am Legend saga has been raised to new heights. The studio is resurrecting original star Will Smith as well as Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan for the sequel, which will be the duo’s first big film together as actors and directors.
It’s like two giant stars have aligned: The films starring Smith and Jordan have earned a total of $12.3 billion globally. Of course, I Am Legend 2 plot specifics are being kept a secret.
Academy award Akiva Goldsman, who converted Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel for the 2007 film adaptation, will also write and produce the sequel. We believe that all of these agreements have been reached, but no director has been appointed because the project is still under development. The first I Am Legend was directed by Francis Lawrence.
Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo’s production company, Outlier Society, is in charge of the project. The film will be produced by Smith and Westbrook Studios Co-President/Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone, with Ryan Shimazaki managing on behalf of Westbrook Studios. The EP will be James Lassiter. Weed Road Pictures, which is run by Goldsman and Greg Lessans, will also produce the film.
I Am Legend Achievement
I Am Legend, which starred Smith in a completely desolate post-apocalyptic New York City amidst zombies, debuted to $77.2 million domestically in early December and went on to collect $256.4 million domestically and $585.4 million globally. Smith’s major announcement comes on the heels of his Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Picture for King Richard, as well as victories at the SAG Awards and NAACP Image Awards for Best Actor. The movie received a total of six Oscar nominations.
Outlier Society Other Projects
Static Shock, a live-action version of DC Comics’ pioneering series authored by Randy McKinnon and produced by Reginald Hudlin with Outlier Society, is also in production with Warner Bros. MGM/Creed UAR’s III is now under development, with Jordan directing and acting as Adonis Creed. On November 23, the film will be released.
Amazon Studios’ portrayal of Akwaeke Emezi’s novel You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty and MGM’s The Thomas Crown Affair, penned by Wes Tooke, are among Outlier Society’s planned cinematic productions. Amazon Studios’ Victories Greater Than Death, The Broken Earth, and the Muhammad Ali series The Greatest are among Outlier’s forthcoming TV projects.
M88, WME, and Gregory Slewett represent Jordan and Outlier Society. CAA is Smith’s management company. CAA and Hansen Jacobson Teller represent Goldsman. Soon after Deadline published this article, Smith gave a heads-up on the I Am Legend 2 project:
