Marvel’s Blade reboot continues to generate buzz, with fans eagerly anticipating its release despite its long and winding production journey.
A recent piece from The Hollywood Reporter provides new insights into the current cast of the film, beyond lead star Mahershala Ali. Among those confirmed is Mia Goth, known for her roles in Pearl and Maxxxine, who remains attached to the project.
Goth is rumored to portray the vampire queen Lilith, with earlier script versions suggesting a 1920s setting where Lilith attempts to steal the blood of Blade’s daughter.
Who Is Marvel’s Lilith?
Initially created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan in 1974’s Giant-Size Chillers Featuring The Curse of Dracula #1, Lilith is Dracula’s first child, born before he became a vampire.
After Dracula murdered her adopted family, Lilith was endowed with enhanced vampiric powers, including immunity to sunlight, to seek vengeance on her father.
Over the years, Lilith has died and been reborn multiple times, assuming control of women seeking to kill Dracula. Her latest host is a widow named Angel O’Hara, though they later gained the ability to operate separately. Lilith’s character oscillates between villain and antihero, having even joined Nick Fury‘s Howling Commandos at one point.
A more recent version of Lilith, an immortal goddess who controls all demons, was created by Howard Mackie and Andy Kubert in 1992’s Ghost Rider #28.
This iteration has been a straightforward antagonist in the Marvel universe, battling characters like Ghost Rider, Morbius, Doctor Strange, and the Midnight Sons. Lilith was also the main antagonist in Marvel’s Midnight Suns video game.
Who Is Directing Marvel’s Blade?
Yann Demange, known for Lovecraft Country and White Boy Rick. Demange was the second director to officially join the project, replacing Bassam Tariq, who exited in September 2022.
Reports indicate that Demange’s departure was amicable and occurred some time ago.
Eric Pearson, a veteran Marvel Studios writer, is the latest to work on the Blade script, building on a previous draft by Michael Starbury.
Despite the director’s exit, Blade is still slated for a fall 2025 release date, although this could change depending on further developments.
